About the role

President ProTech Roofing Location: Honolulu, Hawaiʻi Industry: Commercial Roofing & Construction Employment Type: Full-Time About ProTech Roofing ProTech Roofing is a licensed and certified roofing contractor based in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. The company installs, repairs, replaces, and maintains a wide range of roofing systems, including flat, metal, modified bitumen, shingle, slate, and tile. ProTech also provides insulation and gutter installation services. The company’s work spans new construction, full roof replacement, repair, preventative maintenance, and inspections. ProTech has built its reputation one project at a time through honesty, quality, transparency, and a commitment to delivering excellent work at a fair price. Much of the company’s business comes from repeat clients and general contractors who trust ProTech’s workmanship and relationships. The Opportunity ProTech Roofing is entering an important stage of growth and is seeking a President to lead the company through its next chapter. The President will have end-to-end responsibility for the business, including the P&L, commercial relationships, contracts, estimating, field operations, financial relationships, organizational development, and growth strategy. This is not a caretaker role. ProTech intends to grow significantly beyond its current scale, and the incoming President will be responsible for building the operational, financial, estimating, technology, and engineering infrastructure required to support that growth. The first year will serve as a structured transition period. The current President will remain involved while the incoming President assumes responsibility for the general contractor, architect, and owner relationships that generate the majority of ProTech’s work. Successfully transferring and strengthening these relationships will be one of the most important priorities during the first year. ProTech’s work is primarily commercial new construction across Oʻahu, including roofing systems, sheet metal, and insulation. The company works with union crews rather than subcontracting its core labor. The President must therefore bring strong technical credibility and be comfortable reviewing drawings and specifications, understanding commercial roofing economics, evaluating sheet metal scope, and serving as the final technical authority when necessary. Beyond the existing roofing operation, the President will also have opportunities to develop new revenue streams, including residential insulation and a planned Gypcrete division, while implementing stronger systems for estimating, quoting, job costing, and reporting. What You’ll Own P&L and Financial Performance * Own revenue, gross margin, and overall profitability. * Develop the annual operating plan and deliver against established targets. * Maintain visibility into job-level margins across the backlog. * Identify and explain financial and operational variances. * Establish stronger financial accountability throughout the organization. Commercial Relationships and Business Development * Take ownership of ProTech’s relationships with general contractors, architects, owners, and other key partners. * Become the primary executive contact for the relationships that generate the company’s existing work. * Protect and expand established relationships while developing new sources of demand. * Build a more deliberate commercial and business development strategy beyond the company’s historically relationship-driven inbound model. Contracts, Specifications, and Change Orders * Own contract review, exclusions, specifications, and change-order strategy. * Review drawing sets and specifications before project buyout. * Identify scope gaps, risks, and discrepancies before they affect project profitability. * Ensure changes are appropriately priced, documented, negotiated, and defended. * Protect company margins throughout the project lifecycle. Estimating, Pricing, and Technical Standards * Own estimating and pricing strategy across commercial roofing projects. * Oversee pricing for roofing systems, sheet metal, flashings, and custom fabrication. * Establish technical standards and serve as the final technical authority when required. * Manage estimating capacity and accountability. * Improve estimating accuracy and ensure pricing reflects project complexity and risk. Field Operations * Lead production, union workforce management, and safety. * Hire, develop, and manage foremen and field leadership. * Scale crew capacity alongside backlog growth. * Establish measurable standards for field productivity. * Maintain strong job-specific safety practices across all projects. Banking, Insurance, and Bonding * Manage relationships with banks, insurance brokers, and surety partners. * Understand the financial requirements behind bonding capacity. * Strengthen financial relationships and expand bonding capacity as the company grows. Gypcrete Division Launch * Lead the development and launch of ProTech’s planned Gypcrete division. * Build the business case and operating model. * Determine labor, equipment, estimating, and pricing requirements. * Leverage existing general contractor relationships to generate demand. * Take the division from concept through active production and revenue generation. Team and Systems Development * Build an organization in which critical knowledge and responsibilities do not depend on a single individual. * Identify and hire corporate capabilities needed to support growth. * Develop and cross-train team members. * Evaluate and implement systems for estimating, quoting, job costing, project management, and reporting. * Sequence technology investments according to business priorities rather than implementing unnecessary systems all at once. What We’re Looking For Required Qualifications * 10+ years of experience in commercial roofing or a closely related construction trade. * Significant operating leadership responsibility rather than experience limited to a single functional area. * Experience owning a P&L or leading a business unit with full accountability for revenue, margin, and profitability. * Direct experience managing union labor, including operating within a collective bargaining agreement. * Ability to read and work from complete construction drawing sets and specifications. * Strong understanding of commercial roofing estimating and pricing, including sheet metal scope. * Commercial new-construction experience, including: * Progress billing * Retainage * Change orders * General contractor relationships * Demonstrated success building or materially improving operating processes with measurable improvements to margin, cycle time, productivity, or throughput. * Experience personally hiring, developing, managing, and making difficult personnel decisions. * Hawaiʻi market experience or a credible connection to the islands, with the cultural fluency and relationship skills to operate effectively from the jobsite to the boardroom. Strongly Preferred * Direct experience managing banking, insurance, and surety relationships. * Experience increasing or managing bonding capacity. * Commercial or residential insulation experience. * Experience working within an organization meaningfully larger than ProTech’s current operation or helping scale a contractor through a comparable growth stage. * Experience implementing or replacing a core operating system involving: * Estimating * Job costing * Project management * Reporting * Strong sheet metal fabrication knowledge. * Experience working on the general contractor side as a Project Executive or similar leader responsible for purchasing and managing roofing scopes. * Experience launching a new specialty division within a contractor, including equipment, labor, estimating, and operational requirements. * Experience with Gypcrete, poured underlayment, or another sprayed or poured specialty construction scope. * Bachelor’s degree. The Right Person The successful candidate combines deep technical expertise with strong relationship and executive leadership skills. They should be equally comfortable standing on a roof resolving a technical detail, negotiating a change order with a general contractor, reviewing job-level financial performance, and developing the company’s long-term growth strategy. This person is disciplined and detail-oriented. They read specifications carefully, verify estimates and metal takeoffs, and prefer identifying problems during buyout rather than discovering them at closeout. They will bring ambition for growth while recognizing that ProTech’s reputation, relationships, and workmanship are the foundation of the business. They will protect those strengths while introducing the people, processes, systems, and commercial strategy necessary to scale. Most importantly, they will be comfortable owning both the work and the money, while building a leadership team and operating structure that ensures the business no longer depends on any single individual. Our Commitment ProTech Roofing is committed to building a team that reflects the communities it serves. We maintain a hiring process that is fair, transparent, and human. ProTech Roofing is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
